house – new courtyard

During the last quarter of 2012 we had the courtyard and entry to the house refurbished. In many respects we still much liked the old garden forms but they were looking tired and many of the plants had become unwieldy or intent on getting beyond their intended reach. We loved the courtyard’s garden-room form bounded by the dark hedges but these hedges were becoming too much work as well as prone to sporadic die-back and slow regeneration. The time seemed good to rejuvenate the spaces and allow for more flowers, vegetables and fruit trees. And so we asked Robert for a second time to design a garden for us. As you will see in the photos he has retained the original form but with new light and open interpretation, giving us a new living space we are finding we are very happy with.
