Sorry, but is real difficult to offer any sensible advice since i don't know where you are, or whether you wish to buy coffee to brew yourself or just a cup at a cafe. I'm not any sort of expert, i just have strong opinions about the stuff and know what i like and when i have a good cup of coffee in front of me. For much more professional advice i recommend you try jimseven the blog of barista James Hoffmann @ http://www.jimseven.com/

By 'good barista' you mean the cute one. All Bridgehead coffees are made by automatic dispensers. I guess it's consistant, in the least.
I should tell you about my 'Second Cup' experience. One girl, when preparing a short espresso, turfed it into the sink because 'there wasn't enough'. Of course, I'm remembering this because it was perfect. She then made me a half-long and handed it too me, pleased as punch that she'd satisfied a "true coffee lover".
Sadly, they're all I can get near the hospital.

Frustrating i'm sure Martin. Though your Bridgehead cafe did quite well, especially when the coffee was being made by their good barista. And Planet served ok coffee that was far from the worst we experienced. I'm thinking i have probably been unfair on Ottawa in my post above - ok, nothing you introduced us to there could equal C1 but there are many worse coffees to be had than from those 2 places you have. I should also acknowledge another experience we had. In Toronto we tried a couple of places for breakfast and discovered one to be far better than the other, so that was where we returned of course. This was a Lettieri coffee house [they seem to be a chain in Toronto - maybe elsewhere?] in Front Street just round the corner from our hotel. On the last morning we were there the waitress commented that she'd watched me add cold milk to my latte the previous morning so had made my coffee less hot this morning. I was impressed at her attention and remembering. Not that the latte was even then great, but she was trying ... good. [This scalding the milk is one of the too common faults with bad coffee - ruins it entirely; not to mention my unsuspecting mouth.] I'll stop complaining - i don't know when i'm well off. Thanks for commenting Martin; i meant to say this morning when we were talking that i'd finally started posting here again. Ciao.
